Early Life and Education
Narayan Murthy was born on August 20, 1946, and was born and brought up in the small town of Sidlaghatta in Karnataka India. After high school, his father was a teacher and had always stressed much on the value of education in the family which influenced Murthy to be very academically inclined.
Finally, the schooling was taken from the reliance and Murthy got a B.E degree in Electrical Engineering from the National Institute of Engineering (NIE), Mysore in 1967. He then proceeded to do a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur where he finished in 1969. Though Murthy was a mechanical engineering student at IIT, there he started exploring the field of computer science and software.
Professional Beginnings
Murthy began his career in the early 1970s after he joined the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIM-A) and worked for some time as the chief systems programmer. It provided him with a great opportunity to learn and be familiar with many computing technologies. He then joined Systime Computers, a firm in Paris where he dealt with the production of operating systems.
While still on his sojourn abroad, he learned about the ability of technology to catalyze economic development to change on a world stage. This experience strengthened his intentions to introduce this kind of innovation in India.
Nevertheless, his first business firm generally, Softronics was a software firm that focused on providing IT solutions in the Indian markets but was not successful. Infosys was started in the year 1981, with Narayan Murthy, and six others as its founders. The couple has two issues, Rohan Murthy and Akshata Murthy. Rohan is a technologist who has had education and/or business experience within the academia and/or an entrepreneur Whereas Akshata is married to Rishi Sunak who became the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom in 2022.

Although Murthy retired from the Infosys board in 2011, he rejoined as Executive Chairman in 2013 when the company’s board invited him back to help the firm through some extremely sensitive turbulent times. He stepped down again in 2014 and passed the baton to a younger generation of chefs.
